TIDES OF INFLUENCE: THE BALANO FAMILY IN PORT CLYDE

On June 18, 2026, the St. George Historical Society was proud to host Jim Balano who talked about his family’s long history in Port Clyde and beyond, while sharing his family’s stories.

WOMEN OF ST. GEORGE

The St. George Historical Society honored the life and legacy of Eliza Jane Steele during our program on May 21, 2026.We learned about Eliza Jane Steele who was a woman whose life of service touched countless lives. A proud St. George native and the founding nurse of the Rockland District Nursing Association. 

Peta vanVuuren, St. George resident and Executive Director of RDNA, along with two distinguished guests who knew and worked alongside Eliza Steele shared a video tribute and stories.

A Tribute to Eliza Steele, presented May 21, 2026

For 40 years, she led the RDNA, traveling door to door to care for the health needs of residents throughout Rockland and surrounding communities.
