Ridge Church Cemetery
On October 16, 2025, a small but hardy group of St. George community members braved cold and blustery conditions at the Ridge Cemetery (est. c. 1817) (also known as South Parish Cemetery, Glenmere Cemetery, or Ridge Church Cemetery) to hear about the history of the cemetery and some of its current residents. The group was then offered an opportunity to engage in a scavenger hunt that asked participants to answer questions about the occupants of five specific graves. The answers to the questions could be found using the QR codes that were temporarily installed at the gravesites for the weekend. The QR codes led participants to the St. George Historical Society website and Past Perfect catalogue where they could find more information about late town residents as well as any material objects that might be related to them. Answers were submitted online, and we had one lucky winner of a gift certificate for The Village Ice Cream and Port Clyde Bakery. Enthusiasm from the group was such that we will be doing this again for sure!
